A note from Rob:
Hi! I’m Rob, a Licensed Massage and Sound Therapist. What’s that, you say? Many people completely understand what a massage therapist is and does. But what does a sound therapist do? Well, here’s the answer you’ve all been waiting for: sound therapists use vibration to help others relax and release.
In my case, I use Himalayan singing bowls, tuning forks, gongs, and other instruments to introduce vibration to and around the body. This vibration communicates to the body through the water in our cells and through the “wave lengths” in our brain that it’s ok to relax and settle in to a space where the body can do what it is designed to do… heal.
Sound Therapy is not to be confused with Music Therapy, a specific type of therapy used in a clinical setting where the patient either listens to, moves to, or creates music to assist in meeting specific diagnostic benchmarks. Here you passively receive the vibrations from the instruments, while laying on a massage table, fully clothed, and your body does the work. Of course, active work may be accomplished; but ultimately our main goal is release and relaxation.
Benefits of Sound Therapy
Sound Therapy combines powerful vibration and tones to induce an immediate relaxed state. The introduction of the sound waves directly into the body, along with soothing ambient tones, is such a strong treatment that clients report effects ranging from meditative state to deep relaxation.
